How to Choose the Style of Your Bridal Veil
So, you said YES to the dress! But, you have yet to find the perfect veil to complete your look. There are lots of styles and lengths to choose from; it can seem overwhelming when you consider all the different options. Well, we got you covered; we put together a helpful and informative list with descriptions to make it as easy as possible to select one of the most iconic symbol of weddings around the world.
The Birdcage Veil
A birdcage veil, also known as a bandeau style veil is worn on the crown of the head, and falls just below the eyes, often resting on the nose. They are held in place on either side with combs, and bobby pins are used for creating the shape of the veil around your head. These veils are made with French netting or standard tulle. Brides choose to remove the veil after the ceremony, or leave it on throughout the reception.
The Blusher Veil
A blusher veil, sometimes called an elopement veil, is made with standard tulle and worn on the top of the head. It is secured in the hair with a comb, and bobby pins can be used to shape how the veil frames your head. Blusher veils can fall to the tip of the nose (about 9”), to the bottom of the chin (about 12”), or to the collarbone (about 15”). The length can also be modified by placing the comb further back on the head, which makes the veil shorter. Brides can opt to wear the veil backwards, keeping their face uncovered, letting the tulle lay over the back of the head.
Long Veils
Longer veils can be made with standard tulle; or illusion tulle, which a silky soft and flowing fabric that drapes beautifully. Illusion tulle is a premium material, but definitely worth the added cost
because it is simply stunning.
Veils of significant length are typically offered in standard lengths; Elbow Length (25 inches), Hip Length (36 inches), Fingertip Length (42 inches), Waltz/Ballet Length (54 inches), Ankle Length (70 inches), Chapel Length (90 inches) and Cathedral Length (108+ inches).
At Gilded Shadows, we offer veils of any length, in both standard and illusion tulle. Brides wanting a veil longer than 70 inches need to contact us prior to ordering so we can be certain we can have the necessary materials to create the veil.
